Diesel drivers in Forsyth County finally have an option.

A long-haul driver brought us his F-250 Powerstroke last winter — local Ford dealer wanted three weeks for a fuel injector job, and the small shops he called either wouldn't touch a diesel or said they'd "try." We had it diagnosed the next morning and back on the road in five days. That's the gap we fill: real diesel work, dealer-level diagnostics, without the dealer wait or the dealer bill.

Twin City Automotive provides diesel repair Winston-Salem and Forsyth County drivers can trust with their work trucks. We service light-duty diesel pickups, commercial diesels, and modern diesel engines — Powerstroke, Cummins, Duramax, VW TDI, Mercedes BlueTEC. Every job at our Hanes Mall area shop, with the right tools and the right diagnostic software for each platform.

If your diesel is due for service, throwing codes, blowing smoke, losing power, or dealing with DPF/emissions issues, bring it in. We'll diagnose it properly and walk you through what your truck actually needs before any work begins.

What We Handle

Complete Diesel Services in Winston-Salem

From routine maintenance to full diagnostic and repair work, our shop has the diesel-specific tools and the platform-specific training to keep your truck working hard.

— 01

Diesel Service Winston-Salem NC

Modern diesels last a long time when they're maintained on schedule. We handle diesel oil changes (with the right viscosity and certification), fuel filter replacement, water separator service, air filters, and full inspection at every interval.

— 02

Diesel Repair Winston-Salem NC

Lost power? Hard starts? Black or white smoke? Diesel codes? We diagnose and repair fuel system issues, turbo problems, glow plug failures, EGR faults, sensor faults, and the bigger jobs too. Powerstroke, Cummins, Duramax — all platforms.

— 03

Diesel Fuel System & Injector Service

Diesel fuel systems run at extreme pressure and tight tolerances. We service injectors, high-pressure fuel pumps, fuel rails, and fuel filter assemblies. We also handle fuel contamination cleanups when bad fuel takes out the system.

— 04

Turbocharger & Boost System Repair

Whining, lack of boost, oil consumption, or boost-related codes? Turbos are wear items on diesels. We inspect the turbo, intercooler, intake piping, and boost sensors — and rebuild or replace when needed.

— 05

DPF, EGR & Emissions System Service

Modern diesels have DPF (diesel particulate filter), EGR, and DEF systems that all need maintenance and occasionally repair. We handle DPF regeneration, EGR cleaning and replacement, and DEF system diagnostics — done right, done legal.

— 06

Diesel Diagnostics & Tuning Issues

Diesels need diesel-specific scan tools to read every code. We have the factory-grade software for Ford Powerstroke, Cummins, and Duramax — plus VW TDI and Mercedes BlueTEC. We also help diagnose tune-related issues on modified trucks.

Trouble Signs

Signs your diesel needs attention

Diesels are tough — but they tell you when something is wrong. If any of these match what you're seeing or hearing, schedule a diagnostic before the small problem becomes a big one.

— I.

Black smoke from the exhaust

Usually too much fuel or not enough air — bad injectors, dirty air filter, EGR fault, or boost leak. Don't ignore it. Black smoke means fuel is getting wasted and emissions equipment is taking a beating.

— II.

White or blue smoke from the exhaust

White means fuel isn't burning fully (cold engine, bad glow plugs, low compression). Blue means you're burning oil. Both warrant a diagnostic before they get worse.

— III.

Hard starting or extended cranking

Glow plugs, fuel system pressure, battery condition, or compression issues. Diesel hard-starts almost always have a fixable cause — and they get worse, not better, over time.

— IV.

Loss of power, especially under load

Failing turbo, clogged fuel filter, EGR valve stuck, DPF blocked, or fuel system pressure low. All show up as a truck that won't pull like it used to.

— V.

DEF or DPF warning lights

Modern diesels have multiple emissions warnings. Some let you keep driving for a while. Others will put your truck into limp mode. Don't wait — bring it in as soon as the light comes on.

— VI.

Whining or whistling from the engine bay

Turbo bearings or boost leaks. The earlier you catch a turbo issue, the cheaper it is to fix. Wait too long and the turbo can fail catastrophically.

FAQ

Diesel repair, answered

The questions Forsyth County diesel owners ask us most when their trucks need service or stop running right.

— 01

What diesel platforms do you work on?

Light-duty diesel pickups — Ford Powerstroke (6.0, 6.4, 6.7), Cummins (5.9 and 6.7), and GM Duramax (LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML, L5P). We also handle modern car and SUV diesels including VW TDI and Mercedes BlueTEC. Heavy-duty commercial diesels — call us with your application and we'll let you know.

— 02

How much does diesel repair cost compared to the dealer?

Most jobs run meaningfully less than dealer pricing — sometimes hundreds less on a single repair. The bigger savings come from labor rates and from us not pushing unnecessary work. Every job gets a written estimate before any wrench turns.

— 03

How often should I service my diesel truck?

Modern diesels need less frequent service than gas engines, but the service intervals are real. Diesel oil changes, fuel filter replacement, water separator drains, and air filters all have specific intervals — usually every 7,500 to 10,000 miles depending on platform and use. We'll set up a maintenance schedule for your truck.

— 04

My DPF light is on — what does that mean?

The diesel particulate filter is asking for a regeneration cycle. Sometimes a long highway drive will trigger an active regen and clear the light. If it doesn't, or if the light keeps coming back, the DPF may need a forced regen, cleaning, or in some cases replacement. Bring it in before the truck goes into limp mode.

— 05

Do you work on tuned or modified diesels?

Yes, but with full transparency. Tunes can hide and cause problems, and emissions deletes are not legal in NC. We'll diagnose what's going on, tell you straight what we see, and we'll work on the truck — but we have to follow emissions law on what we install or remove.

— 06

How long do diesel repairs usually take?

It depends on the job. A diagnostic and most service work is same-day or next-day. Bigger jobs — fuel system rebuilds, turbo replacement, head gasket work — can take several days. We'll give you a realistic timeline upfront.

— 07

Do you service diesel work trucks and fleet diesels?

Yes. We pick up fleet vehicles when needed and prioritize work-truck downtime to get you back on the road quickly. Fleet pickup, scheduled maintenance plans, and priority service are all available — call us with your fleet size and needs.
