You can count on Twin City Automotive for all of your automobile service and repair needs. If your vehicle needs a new water pump, we’d be happy to replace the old one. We are going to list below the signs that the water pump is going bad. Naturally, if the water pump is not circulating the coolant through the engine, your engine will overheat. Don’t drive your automobile with an overheating engine. If you continue to operate the vehicle, you can damage the engine severely.
Damage to the Pump
Sometimes, you can see that the water pump needs to be replaced because it is damaged. Generally, the damage is caused by corrosion. If the water pump starts to leak the coolant slowly out of it, the coolant will puddle around the pump and feed off the metal. This will cause the pump to corrode.
Leaking Engine Coolant
Eventually, you will end up with a much larger coolant leak out of the water pump because of the corrosion. This will leave you with spots or puddles on the garage floor and an overheating engine. The engine will overheat if the temperature rises above 220 degrees Fahrenheit. You need the water pump circulating plenty of coolant through the engine to keep it cool rather than leaking it.
Poor Coolant Circulation
Speaking of coolant circulation, a faulty water pump may be unable to push the coolant through the engine to keep it cool in all areas. This is a sign that the water pump has worn out and is malfunctioning. One of the things we can do at our shop is test your coolant circulation to see if there is a problem with the water pump. If there is, we will replace the pump with a new one.
Growling Noises
In fact, your vehicle’s water pump may start to make growling noises in the engine if it is going bad. You will hear these noises coming from the front of the engine. Anytime your engine makes strange noises, it’s a good idea to have your vehicle towed to our shop to avoid engine damage. You never know what could be causing the noise.
Constant Overheating
Finally, a faulty water pump is going to make your engine overheat constantly. There is no way to avoid this because the leaking pump is either reducing the coolant level in the engine or the malfunctioning pump is not circulating the coolant.
